Downtown/Central
If urban living is your desire, you can’t beat downtown Asheville with its music, fine arts, great restaurants and easy walking. Lofts and townhomes are predominant here.
Grove Park
Full of charming older homes, Grove Park surrounds the Grove Park Inn, an historic hotel and spa. Tree-lined streets make for great walking, and close access to downtown puts Asheville’s amenities within five minutes.
Lakeview Park
Asheville Country Club and Beaver Lake dominate this area, which is an established neighborhood great for relatively flat walking and lake views. Old mature trees line the streets, and you can find large and small single family homes here.
Montford
A historic neighborhood within walking distance of downtown, Montford has many homes built in the late 1800s to mid-1920s. Parks and sidewalks make it family friendly.
North Asheville
An established neighborhood, this area features many different types of homes. Close to the Botanical Gardens, UNC Asheville, and downtown, you can also find country living, and great access to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Oakley
Between Beverly Hills and Biltmore Village, Oakley offers affordability and convenience. Good schools and easy access to shopping make it an ideal place to call home.
West Asheville
An eclectic mix of shops, eateries and pubs create a central gathering place for West Asheville residents. You’ll find cottage bungalows, green buildings, and new construction here, as well as great views of the French Broad River and easy access to the River Arts District.
Suburban
Beverly Hills
Surrounding the Municipal Golf Course, this area is convenient to shopping and only five minutes from downtown. These traditional homes are set among mature trees.
Biltmore Forest
An exclusive residential community and one of the oldest communities in town, Biltmore Forest is just south of downtown and adjacent to Biltmore. Large estates on private wooded acres mark this area. Biltmore Forest Country Club offers spectacular golf and a great place to socialize.
Black Mountain
On the eastern edge of Buncombe County, this charming small town has a vibrant downtown filled with shops, local restaurants, and art galleries. In and around Black Mountain you can find a diverse selection of homes from mountain-side cabins to planned developments.
East Asheville
East Asheville is a convenient area comprised of the Haw Creek, Beverly Hills, and Oteen neighborhoods. A mix of single family and multi-family homes, residents of East Asheville enjoy easy access to great shopping and the Blue Ridge Parkway all within a few miles of downtown Asheville.
Haw Creek
Haw Creek offers convenience to big box stores, Asheville Mall, and downtown. Here you’ll find a wide variety of homes with a surprising amount of privacy.
Kenilworth

South Asheville
One of the fastest growing and most densely populated areas, South Asheville has gentle topography and good access to public utilities. An excellent school system and high number of residential subdivisions such as Biltmore Park make this area ideal for families.
Weaverville
Only 10 minutes from downtown Asheville, Weaverville offers its own charms with a quaint Main Street, a thriving business community, and big box stores nearby. Primary home choices are single family homes, but you can find an occasional condo or townhome.
Woodfin
Although traditionally known as an industrial community, Woodfin has transformed into an affordable housing area. Smaller homes are perfect for first-time buyers, and the new YMCA at Reynolds Mountain with its planned community adds new life and activity to the area.
Rural
Enka/Candler
Enka/Candler is on the western side of the county. More rural, you can find large tracts of acreage or newer residential developments such as Biltmore Lake. Easy access to Bent Creek trail system and the Blue Ridge Parkway make it ideal for outdoor living. The NC Arboretum also offers hours of delightful trails, native plants, and educational opportunities. Close to the interstate, this community is easily accessible.
Fairview
For convenience in a rural setting, Fairview is a great place on the southeast corner of the county. Close to downtown and the Asheville Mall, you can still find gorgeous vistas here. Good schools and great access to the Blue Ridge Parkway add to the area appeal.
Leicester
You’ll find large acreage, plenty of farms, and privacy in this country area. Most of the area is accessed by two-lane country roads, making it a great place for country living.
North Buncombe
Higher elevations and more mountainous topography make this area the place to live if you want to live in the mountains. Amazing views and easy access to downtown add to the reasons to live here.
Swannanoa
Located between Asheville and Black Mountain, Swannanoa offers large tracts of farmland and mountain views. Single family homes and townhome choices are available. Warren Wilson College is located here with all its cultural and educational choices.
